FOLD THIS IN WITH THE SECTION ON SCHEDULING ON THE UCIMC PAGE
Note: URGENT = within 3 days, EMERGENT= within 6 hours
Patients will get their OR times one day prior and the information comes from central scheduling
Attending cases are scheduled with the attending surgical schedulers based on location of consent (e.g. Attending patient seen at Pav2 will be managed by Orange surgical schedulers) .
Fellows will manage the academic patients and case order. When the case is signed up, please have schedulers try to put the case on the same approving attending's schedule (e.g. Dr Mishra signs it up, put the case on his OR day rather than Wednesday). If the case has to be scheduled with another attending, discuss case with attending first so they are aware. Dr Riazi typically likes to see the patient, so can bring them in Monday PM in Orange for pre-op visit.
Never schedule a combo corneal transplant as first case. Corneal transplant always 2nd case or later because same day tissue delivery.
Double check lens orders for all cases and have list ready for scheduler on Friday, then update the list Monday for any weekend add-ons, which gets finalized on Tuesdays
Nevers=
combo corneal transplant as first case --> because tissue usually not available until mid-first case based on timing of shipment
more than 1 TRD per day
2 weeks prior= look at cases. Always have some foresight so you know what's going on and can make switches if needed.
1-2 week prior= verify lenses and special meds (e.g. intravitreals, amniotic membrane). Order them if needed.
OR day
H&P + consent. If phakic, make sure the consent has lensectomy/IOL placement in it.
tell Techs what equipment open for the case and tell anesthesia what we want
check microscope and make sure it works (make sure the resight responds)
07:10am-call Dr Kuppermann to run list (text him night before because he often has meetings/flights and can't talk)
Eyes on the schedule. If cancellations, talk to attendings and staff to aid moving patients up to minimize gaps in schedule
Night team starts at 6:30pm. Best effort to finish cases before then.
